Second Floor Session: Oyster 101 – A Hands-On Oyster Experience

Step into the celebration of Women’s History Month with our Second Floor Sessions at Hank’s Old Town. This series of dining experiences promises an evening filled with culinary exploration

Prepare to immerse yourself in the fascinating world of oysters as we partner with Sarah Matheson of Matheson Oyster Co. for an unforgettable workshop on Sunday, March 17.

Upon arrival, savor a tantalizing Oyster Shooter to ignite your palate for the night ahead. Delve deep into the realm of oysters with a comprehensive Oyster 101 class led by Sarah herself. From the intricacies of oyster cultivation to conservation endeavors and the anatomy of these delightful mollusks, Sarah will cover every facet.

Then go on a guided tasting journey featuring an array of oysters: Virginia, East Coast, West Coast, and Kumumoto. Discover the nuances of flavor and texture that each variety offers as we explore different cooking methods, including frying, baking, and stewing. Engage in lively discussions while indulging in various oyster preparations served family-style.

Cap off the evening by mastering the art of oyster shucking under Sarah’s guidance. Get hands-on experience as you try your hand at shucking, unlocking the secrets to this timeless culinary skill.

Dive into a sea of savory surprises this Leap Year. Uncover a secret golden oyster nestled within your order of a dozen oysters and strike it rich with a $150 gift certificate. Second Floor Session: The Ladies of Thompson Italian

Join us for Women’s History Month celebrations with our Second Floor Sessions: a special series of dining experiences held on the 2nd floor of Hank’s Oyster Bar in Old Town, Alexandria.

On Sunday, March 10, we’re thrilled to welcome Executive Chef Lucy Dakwar, Chef de Cuisine Sarah Ewald, and Chef/Owner Katherine Thompson, our esteemed neighbors at Thompson Italian, as they collaborate with Hank’s Chef and Owner Jamie Leeds to present a delightful four-course dinner with optional wine pairings.

Cauliflower Caesar, roasted cauliflower, tri color cauliflower, miso aioli, colatura, olive granola

Second Floor Session: Pupusa Making Workshop

Join us in honoring Women’s History Month with our Second Floor Sessions: an exclusive series of dining experiences taking place on the second floor of Hank’s Oyster Bar in Old Town, Alexandria.

Dive into a fun and interactive Pupusa Making Workshop at Hank’s on Sunday, March 3 from 4-6pm. Learn the art of making delicious Salvadoran pupusas from scratch with El Tamarindo’s Ana Reyes, who will share her secret recipes and guide you through the process.

Get your hands dirty as you knead the dough, shape the dough, stuff it with mouthwatering fillings, and then Ana’s team will grill them to perfection. Enjoy bites like oysters from Hank’s Oyster Bar, pupusas & empanadas from El Tamarindo while you work. You’ll get your three pupusa creations to-go along with curtido slaw and salsa de tomate to try at home!

Attention all bao enthusiasts! Get ready for a culinary adventure as we collaborate with Angry Bao for a second bao-making popup event at Hank’s Dupont Circle on Tuesday, January 30.
Upon arrival, you’ll be treated to a welcoming shot of soju and delectable shishito pepper snacks. Take a seat and witness Angry Bao Chef Steve Kim’s expert demonstration on the art of crafting the perfect bao. Following the demonstration, we’ll provide you with bao dough to roll and shape to perfection.

As your bao steam to perfection in the kitchen, indulge in an engaging history lesson on soju and savor a refreshing soju highball. Finally, relish two flavorful baos of your choice—options include mushroom, fried oyster, or fried chicken!
